Guernsey Clematis Nursery

Duchess of Edinburgh

Category: Our Clematis

Raised by Jackmans before 1876. An old classical clematis and the best double white until the introduction of cl. 'Arctic Queen' Evitwo(N). By comparison, it is shy flowering. It was described by Moore & Jackman as having a scent to fill a room. I find it only very slightly scented. It retains its foliage much later than most large-flowered clematis. The fully double flowers (on old or new growth) have several rows of green outer tepals and occasionally, the flower can be fully green in the early summer. The early flowers are 12cm (5in) in diameter, the later flowers smaller. Suitable as a cut flower.
